About Jess

I'm an often random, straight talkin' lawyer, mama to 2 girls, who loves to run. I'm a Starbucks (decaf) fiend and Amazon.com addict.  Wanna know more? Click on "About STJ" on the menu bar.

Jess is the Rock.

So my post about being in a rock and a hard place? Well I took over and now I’m the rock. I decided to make things happen. Thank you to those of you who commented and reached out in support. I appreciate you all.

Back to today.

Unfortunately when I picked up my girl to . . . → Read More: Jess is the Rock.

Rock + Hard Place = Jess

I have never cried about daycare.

Until yesterday.  Twice.

Ava’s been in daycare since she was 2  years old.  That is four whole years ago.  Allie started daycare when she was 3 1/2 months old.   It’s been fine.  To say their daycares were different…well that would be an understatement.  No matter though, because I . . . → Read More: Rock + Hard Place = Jess

Getting Serious. Facebook.

You know I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook.  It’s awesome. I’ve watched Social Network about 20 times. I love it.

I think it’s great being able to keep up with friends and classmates. It’s amusing to follow trainwrecks that you just can’t bring yourself to unfriend.

But I always have issues with how public . . . → Read More: Getting Serious. Facebook.

How to Raise Humans, not Heathens.

Halloween was great. I got to look at my precious girls dressed like this:

But that was the highlight of Halloween.  Oh wait, and my coworker dressed like a Teletubby so that was pretty awesome because he’s a grown dude with a beard and it was hilarious–especially because no one dresses up in my . . . → Read More: How to Raise Humans, not Heathens.

What Would You Do?

Leaving your babies in the care of others for the majority of their waking hours is hard. Very hard.  It’s even harder when your kids can’t speak up for themselves.

Diana at Hormonal Imbalances said something in one of her blogs once that really stuck with me.

One Week.

That didn’t take long. One week into the new school year and first week of daycare and my tiny baby has her first ever cold.

Ultra sad face.

Thank you, come again.

Whatever happened to customer service? Good business etiquette and representing yourself in the best possible manner? Gone.

We’ve finally decided to get a little project going here at home. Found someone that came recommended by a friend. We met, talked, decided to do it.

Yeah….it’s Saturday, nearly midnight (so forgive my mindless blabbering . . . → Read More: Thank you, come again.

Back it up.

There’s only one rule more important than the cardinal rule that “thou shall not touch a pregnancy woman’s belly.”

THOU SHALL NOT TOUCH THE BABY.

I’m all about my baby. I’m totally against germs and miscellaneous. So random strangers (and some people I know) are not allowed to touch.

Don’t Txt. Just Wait.

Hi everybody! (you have to read that in Dr. Nick’s voice from the Simpsons)

So here I am. I’ve been busy around here and literally have barely touched the computer since before this little nugget arrived.  I still need to pound out a bunch of posts, but somehow, being near the computer just isn’t as . . . → Read More: Don’t Txt. Just Wait.

Fired.

Not me. Phew. No.  Thank goodness.

But I did fire my kid’s pediatrician.  And my old ob/gyn.

Why? you ask.  Well, because I just didn’t feel comfortable.  Because something just pushed me over the edge with both of them. And I’m damn proud of it.

We were incredibly spoiled by Ave’s pediatrician and my ob/gyn . . . → Read More: Fired.
